A new love.

Posted: May 25, 2011 in Uncategorized

Found a new one. A good one, and I am excited. In the back of my head, I secretly, ok, well not so secretly admire, and am in awe of all you runners out there. Hitting the pavement, over and over, and running what seems to be obscene distances.

I used to love running, but as age would have it, my knees and ankles don’t. Recently, I have discovered a new love in the cross trainer. I like it, because it challenges me. Resistance, and incline. Love that.

This morning, my new love and I did 20.39K. My goal is to get to 25K next week, and eventually to 50K. I love having goals, they give me strength, and help me feel like I can conquer the world…

I plan to hit the 50K goal by my birthday, which is July 6. I think I can do it. Actually, I know I can.

Shaking things up!

Summer is almost here, and at the gym, conversations are increasing around how bikini season is coming up….definite inspiration to get or to keep moving….but after being at this for what seems like FOREVER….what do you guys do to keep workouts interesting, and to keep your body changing in a positive way?

I’ve been working out heavy on the cardio of late, finally got rid of all those March break lbs, but now it is time to set some new goals. Some, related to working out, some related to just all round healthier living.

What are your goals? How do you plan to get into/maintain your ‘bikini body’ for the summer?

I will be increasing my weights, switching up my workout to be heavier on strength training, (switching to 50/50). I plan on drinking more ‘plain’ water (this is a tough one for me) adding in some outdoor runs, and my REAL challenge goal, is going to be to get a solid 7-8 hours of sleep at least 5 days/week.

What do you plan on doing to shake things up?

My girl Nia, and one of my biggest inspirations, had this status on her Facebook yesterday. Talk about fortuitous timing.

My motivation has been ‘waning’ a little bit in the last few weeks, mainly because I think I have lost focus of my goal, or need to set some new ones. I had recently planned on doing a dragonboat race in June, and because of family commitments, am unable to participate…I think not having something  to focus on, made me relax a bit…too….much…

Often, I think…ohhh, eating healthy is so hard because of that piece of cake, or because of that piece of chocolate, or because of that (fill in the blank).  My focus is typically on the things I am trying to avoid. Never thought of it that way, till I read Nia’s post.

Focusing on what you want to achieve, makes you stronger, and helps create willpower.

Went to McDonald’s today, and because I was focussed on my goal, I didn’t even want any of those delicious fries…ok, maybe a little, but focussing on what I want to ACHIEVE made them a lot easier to AVOID!

Thank you NIA!!!
